Finally it’s here… Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece.

Director Claire Goodwin and her company of actors and artists bring to us this rare theatrical event. Angels in America: Part One: Millennium Approaches is an epic production that dances amongst colossal themes and characters in a sweeping panorama encompassing the most elemental realities of our existence and transporting us to characters that are both comedic and tragic, demonic and delectable, factual and fictitious, haunted and yet full of hope.

Angels in America takes place in a city of lost souls, living amongst fear and isolation. A new disease is ravaging the community but is being hushed up by the conservative government. We are dropped into the whirlwind of the private lives of some of its inhabitants.  Among the complex and colourful characters is the charismatic, enigmatic and historic villain Roy Cohn, gay couple Louis and his partner Prior who has AIDS, Joe and Harper Pitt, a seemingly straight couple that couldn’t be more “bent”, Joe being a Morman whilst suppressing his sexuality and his wife Harper, a neurotic Mormon housewife, agoraphobic and valium addict with incessant drug-induced hallucinations who is frequently visited by her imaginary friends. Soon these colourful characters unwittingly become entangled with one another in lies, betrayal, dreams, fevers, and hallucinations.

Angels in America is about love, fear, and hope for change, a sensitive and complex portrait of a restless generation that is in revolt against a seemingly heartless society. Within the intimacy of a living room, the stage becomes a microcosm of the world, and mankind unleashes its own hesitant revolution.

Angels in America is a mosaic of stories, histories and characters that promise to touch and awaken.

Claire’s theatre productions combine digital art and music from some of Australia’s leading artists. Angels in America is joined by award-winning digital artist Mitch Goodwin and rising stars Ella Fence and Kate Leopold who lead a moving and skillful musical score.
