Community Events & Festivals to Catch in 2017

Banff Mountain Film Festival 2016

Are you starting to plan your holiday and wondering what events you can catch in 2017? You will be happy and excited to know that several exciting community events especially film festivals are set on the first half of the new year.

Below are a few you will be interested in.

The Slater + Gordon Burleigh Swim Run Australia Day Challenge: This fun community fitness event will be held at the Burleigh Lifeguard Headquarters on January 26th, Australia Day from 6am to 10am. The event features three different race options with certain age categories.

First is called The Challenge, the only event that has a solo and team option. It consists of a 400m ocean swim and 4km beach run. Second is The Taste Tester, a 200m ocean swim and 2km beach run challenge. Though there is no age category, this is only open for solo competitors. Last is The Young Guns Challenge. It features a 400m wade and 400m beach run suitable for kids aged 5 to 12.

2017 Ocean Film Festival: If you love films and appreciate the ocean, then don't miss the Ocean Film Festival at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on March 9, 7pm. Witness the wonders of the big blue through the festival's carefully curated selection of short films.

Banff Mountain Film Festival 2017: Enjoy 2 ½ hours of captivating adventure films on May 23 at The Art Centre Gold Coast. The prestigious mountain film festival is back and has prepared a series of short films that showcases the action; not to mention, the stunning views that will surely inspire you.

Cooly Rocks On: Returning this June 7 to 11 in the iconic Coolangatta is the country's largest rock 'n' roll and nostalgia festival. Cooly Rocks On continues to deliver a spectacular event through the series of events and shows for everyone to enjoy. Get ready for the car cruises and Show ‘n Shines, dance championships, drive-in movies, poodle parade, retro markets, Miss Cooly Rocks On and their signature street parade.

The 89th Mudgeeraba Show: Head over to the Mudgeeraba Showgrounds on June 24 and 25, 8am. The 2017 edition of the Mudgeeraba Show promises to deliver bigger attractions and entertainment for the whole family. In fact, they prepared a new and revamped ring program with over 400 classes.
