What’s Happening? The Red Bull Foam Wreckers in Burleigh Heads, QLD

The Red Bull Foam Wreckers is back in Burleigh Heads, and it’s more fun than ever! This surf contest is different from your typical one. As per Red Bull, this is an anti-surf-contest surf contest where the only goal is to have maximum fun while riding the waves.

For the uninitiated, Red Bull Foam Wreckers have one requirement: to ride a foamie or soft-top surfboard in the most unconventional way possible.

If you want to join the contest, just ride a foamie provided by the event organisers, and you’re all set. So, how do you choose a foamie? Well, you don’t. You spin Red Bull’s Wheel of Shred when you sign up to join the contest. Fate will decide which foamie you’ll get!

When the heat starts, paddle out to meet the swell with the other contestants. You have 15 minutes to show the judges how much you don’t take yourself seriously.

You can ride your foamie while lying on your back, doing the down dog, spinning, or sitting. If you can do the headstand on a foamie or a board transfer, yeah, feel free. What’s important is you do it with flair and in the most unique way possible.

What to Do in Burleigh Heads After the Red Bull Foam Wreckers

Taste the finest beers at Burleigh Heads breweries

Once you’re done with the beach, visit Burleigh Heads’ best local breweries. Check out Black Hops Brewery, which is located along Gardenia Grove. This famous brewery’s black building is hard to miss. It offers 14 kinds of beer on tap, so choose whichever suits your palate.

Another brewery worth visiting is the Burleigh Brewing Company. It offers several world-class craft beers with flavours unique only to Burleigh Heads. Visit on the weekend to mingle with locals and tourists alike. There are also canned beers for you to take home.

Hike the Burleigh Head National Park

You don’t have to go far to commune with Mother Nature, as the Burleigh Head National Park is in our backyard.

There is no need to bring some serious hiking shoes for this outing. Thongs or your good old sneakers will do.

There are two trails you can take. You can take the scenic ocean view and rainforest circuit, which is the easiest for all ages. This trail takes less than an hour to complete – more if you want a stroll.

If you’re looking for a more challenging trail, choose the rainforest circuit, which leads to the Jebbribillum and Tumgun Lookouts. Take some pictures of yourself and your friends or family at Tumgun Lookout, as this is one of the most breathtaking sights in Burleigh Heads.

Remember to hydrate, wear comfy clothes, and wear a hat, as the hike can get hot, especially at midday.

Grab some local produce or breakfast at the Burleigh Farmers Markets

Mingle with locals (and a few fellow tourists) at the Burleigh Farmers Market on the Burleigh Heads State School grounds. The market features fresh organic produce and tasty food. You can also just grab one or two delicacies to tantalise your tastebuds while you are there, such as a tub of strawberries, baked goodies, coffee, or freshly squeezed juice.

The Burleigh Farmers Market happens every Saturday between 7am to noon. They promise that the market is open whether the weather’s fine or not. Entry is free.
