Sometimes it’s nice to just get away to relax and unwind. With the weather warming up why not take a break at Swell Resort at Burleigh Heads? There are some fantastic accommodation specials on offer and it’s the perfect location to kick back, relax and let the world pass you by. Here are a few things to inspire you.

1. Watch the sunrise

Experience the beauty of the sun rising over the ocean from Burleigh Head National Park. This iconic 27 hectare national park is an experience not to be missed. The climb to the top of Burleigh Hill will get your pulse racing as you walk along a track through rainforest and pandanus groves. Spend the morning exploring the park, which has several beautiful walking tracks including an ocean view or rainforest circuit that take you to the pristine Echo Beach Tallebudgera and the Tumgun and Jebbribillum lookouts. If you are fortunate you might spot some of the local wildlife including sea eagles, water dragons, dolphins and brush turkeys.

2. Kilometres of amazing beaches

Swell Resort is located just a short walk to the beautiful Burleigh Heads beach. Take a leisurely walk along the sand with waves crashing around your feet or walk along the esplanade that runs adjacent to the beach. Don’t forget your sunglasses, hat and wallet as there are loads of cool beach-front cafes where you can get a great takeaway coffee to enjoy at one of the many park benches along the way. If you enjoy walking, you can easily find yourself at one of the many beautiful beaches on this stretch of the Gold Coast including Miami, Mermaid Beach, Broadbeach or if you’re a really keen walker, Surfers Paradise. Make a day of it and pack some supplies and a towel or get a bite to eat at one of the cafes along the way.

3. Take a dip

Burleigh Heads beach is renowned for its golden sand and clear blue water. It’s also very well patrolled by both the Burleigh Beach and Burleigh Surf Lifesaving Clubs. These Aussie surf lifesavers are on patrol to ensure that you stay safe during your time at the beach. If you do decide to take a dip remember to only swim between the red and yellow flags in the patrolled section of the beach and only when the lifesavers are on duty. Of course Burleigh Heads is also a popular surfing spot so if you’re a keen surfer don’t forget to bring your board! We also suggest taking a walk around the Burleigh Headland to the azure water of Currumbin Creek, the south side of the river has a patrolled swimming area and is perfect for a refreshing swim – but more about that below!

4. Spot whales from the shoreline

One of the amazing things to do on the Gold Coast is to spot Humpback Whales from the shoreline. These incredible mammals can be sighted during whale season which runs from May to  November each year. Don’t know what to look for? Scan the horizon for the tell-tail spouts of water being shot into the air, which means the whale is near the surface. If you are lucky you could spot whales breaching as they flip their enormous bodies out of the water, or see the large splash of water that follows as they re-enter the ocean. For one of the best vantage points on the Gold Coast climb to the top of Burleigh Hill where you will be met with expansive views over Burleigh Heads, the ocean and the Gold Coast. What better a way to spend a morning or afternoon than whale spotting?  Another option is to book a Gold Coast whale watching cruise with most companies offering guarantee sightings or a free return tour.

5. Immerse yourself in Tallebudgera Creek

This beautiful spot is just south of Burleigh Head National Park where the creek meets the ocean. You can splash around in the patrolled Tallebudgera Creek beach area without waves crashing over your head, walk over to Tallebudgera Beach, find a picnic spot, hire a kayak or SUP for the day or go fishing. You can walk there from Swell Resort. It will take you approximately 20 minutes or longer if you detour through the Burleigh Head National Park, but it’s well worth the walk for the beautiful scenery.

6. Foodies heaven

Burleigh has come into its own as a thriving food precinct with lots of on-trend eateries and cafes. It’s a foodie’s heaven offering everything from Australian fusion dishes to Middle Eastern flavours. Dine in and soak up the village atmosphere or spoil yourself with takeaway that can be enjoyed in the comfort of your apartment or by the beach as the sun sets. If you don’t feel like going out you can stock up on supplies at one of several local supermarkets that are brimming with fresh produce. Woolworths Metro and FoodWorks are both a short walk from Swell Resort. Why not look for some local ingredients that you haven’t tried before to turn into a home away from home gastronomic delight!

7. Great modern beachside accommodation

Relax and unwind in style in either a one, two or three bedroom self-contained holiday apartment at Swell Resort. Enjoy the modern ‘beachy’ décor and an apartment that comes complete with everything you need including a fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, air conditioning and a choice of a courtyard or private balcony.  Swell Resort apartments are situated just across the road from the fabulous Burleigh Heads beach and are walking distance to the trendy but relaxed vibe of the entertainment, dining and shopping precinct, making them the perfect beachside accommodation.

8. Stop and relax

Sometimes it’s nice to just stop everything and not think about what you are doing next when on holiday. At Swell Resort you can relax in your well-appointed apartment, cook up a delicious meal using the BBQ facilities, hit the resorts full-sized tennis court or take a yoga class in the Swell Wave Room. If getting sand in your swimmers isn’t your thing you can swim in the large heated outdoor pool, complete with a spa. It’s the perfect spot to relax, take a nap or enjoy that book you never seem to get the time to read.
